Milk protests

MORE than 1,000 farmers are protesting outside European Union headquarters against a drop in milk prices, while other demonstrators have blocked milk processing plants in France.

The farmers say they have been forced to sell milk at below production costs because prices have fallen up to 50 percent over the past year. The EU says it is intervening with support measures as much as it can to boost the market.
