Argument leads to murder-suicide

A MAN stabbed his girlfriend to death before drowning himself in a river in Nanhui, part of Pudong, yesterday morning.

A similar case occurred in Minhang District on Tuesday when a man tried to commit suicide after killing his wife.

In the Nanhui case, the man, 23, surnamed Lu, lived with his parents in Nanhui's Hangtou Town. The victim, surnamed Chen, aged 20, lived with him.

Lu accused Chen of having other boyfriends after he found messages had been sent to other men from her cell phone, police said.

He stabbed her in the stomach about 5am yesterday. Lu then rushed outside and jumped into a river.

In the Minhang case, a man killed his wife of 10 years. The wife had left home after suffering domestic violence last Friday, but the husband persuaded her to return home on Monday. He killed her the following morning.

The man then tried to commit suicide but failed and turned himself in to the police.
