CHINA'S police will launch a six-month campaign in May to intensify public security in the run-up to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Vice Minister of Public Security Zhang Xinfeng said yesterday.
The campaign would aim at ensuring "a steady and harmonious social environment" for the celebrations on October 1, Zhang said during a teleconference of the ministry.
Police authorities across the country must focus on cracking major cases involving criminal gangs, wanted criminals and serial offenders, and curb robberies, phone scams and other types of theft, Zhang said.
