THE Group of Eight is demanding that the warring factions in Sri Lanka take all necessary action to prevent further civilian deaths.
The G-8 foreign ministers say in a statement that they are deeply concerned about the country's deteriorating humanitarian situation and the plight of civilians.
Tens of thousands of civilians are caught in Sri Lanka's northern war zone, where the military has pushed forward with its offensive to destroy the Tamil Tiger rebels.
The G-8 ministers say they are most concerned about reports that the injured have been unable to move to safety.
The statement issued today by current G-8 president Italy says it is time for the conflict to end now.
