Prostitution trial will be held in private

A TRIAL involving a child prostitution ring in south-west China will be closed to the public when it takes place tomorrow.

Three of the 11 victims are under 14 and the other eight are under 18, the Xishui County People's Court in Guizhou Province said.

The trial involves Yuan Li, an unemployed woman, said to have provided her apartment as a brothel, and a young couple said to have forced schoolgirls into prostitution.

Ten of the 17 accused will not stand trial but receive administrative punishments, as they were not involved in sexual activities, the court said.

On trial will be five government officials, a teacher and a taxi driver.

One of the officials is legislator Mu Mingzhong. The county's committee of Chinese People's Congress has revoked Mu's qualification for CPC membership.
