Average salaries rise 13.8 percent

THE Shanghai Statistics Bureau said the average salary of employees in Shanghai was 3,292 yuan (US$481) a month in 2008, a 13.8 percent year-on-year rise, Oriental Morning Post reported today.

The average salary of employees in Beijing rose 12.17 percent to 3,726 yuan a month last year. Employees in 10 industries made more than 100,000 yuan annually with those in securities and the banking industry topping the list, Beijing Statistics Bureau said yesterday.

The biggest average salary difference between companies in the securities industry in the capital is above 1 million yuan.

The textile and manufacturing industry is at the bottom of the list with annual incomes of less than 20,000 yuan.

The social security welfare payments for Shanghai employees will be adjusted from April 1 based on the newly released figures.
