THE Metro Line 8 extension, which crosses Pujiang Town in Pudong, will start running in July.
Residents relocated from the World Expo site to Pujiang Town will benefit from the 14.25-kilometer extension, which runs from Chengshan Road Station to Space Museum Station, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
Currently Line 8 runs 22.4 kilometers from Wujiaochang area in Yangpu District to Yaohua Road in Pudong. It will be one of the main Metro lines for the World Expo.
Metro Line 7, the second phase of Line 9 and the first phase of the north section of Line 11 will be opened by the end of the year. Line 10, the east and west extension of Line 2, the north extension of Line 7 and World Expo section of Line 13 are scheduled to be running by the opening of the World Expo in May.
Then the metro network will cover 400 kilometers and 11 lines.
Forty stations for Metro Lines 11, 12 and 13 will start construction by the end of the year and 45 Metro stations including Hengshan Road and Caobao Road Station would be upgraded this year.
TOILETS on Metro Line 8 are regularly being taken out of service because thieves are removing expensive water taps. ''The problem has troubled many toilets on Line 8, but we have seized only one of the thieves...
