THE Atlanta Braves have reached an agreement to sign Japanese pitcher Kenshin Kawakami subject to a medical, Major League Baseball said on its Website on Sunday.

The 33-year-old right-hander spent the past 11 seasons as one of the top pitchers in Japan's Central League, the Website said, adding that the physical examination was to take place late yesterday. Kawakami had a 9-5 record with a 2.30 earned run average with the Chunichi Dragons this past season.
