A reconstruction project at Shanghai West Railway Station, which begins today, will allow passengers to transfer between trains and Metro Line 11 by 2010, officials said yesterday.

The station will be a hub for the Huning Intercity Railway, which connects Shanghai and Nanjing and will have an annual capacity of 16 million passengers.

Underground passages will connect the station with the subway lines, two plazas and a bus station.
