A MAN from Henan Province said to have buried a 4-year-old girl in a suitcase after assaulting her has been charged with acting indecently toward a minor by Baoshan District prosecutors.
The man, 39, identified as Zhang, was given a life sentence 22 years ago for raping a minor but released for good behavior in August 2002.
Zhang then came to Shanghai as a migrant worker and rented a room in Baoshan District. Last July a family with a 4-year-old daughter moved next door.
Prosecutors allege Zhang persuaded the girl to come to his room when her parents were out on August 7. He allegedly tied her hands and feet and indecently assaulted her.
Then, Zhang is said to have put the girl in a suitcase, taking it to a green area near Jiangyang Road N., where he dug a hole and stuffed it in.
However, a passerby heard the girl crying and rescued her.
