License plate quota increases

THE quota for vehicle license plates has been set at 5,200 for this month, 700 more than last month, the Shanghai International Commodity Auction Co Ltd said.

The auction will be on January 10. Authorities reserved 206 plates are reserved for businesses changing motorcycle plates to car plates and 29 for motorcycles. The average price of a car plate in December rose 7,314 yuan (US$1,068) to 31,665 yuan from a month earlier. The lowest winning bid rose to 31,000 yuan.
