A GIFT list for government officials in Nanjing City has been accidentally revealed and shows nearly 150,000 yuan (US$21,922) worth of presents were given to different levels of officials during the Spring Festival of 2007, a local newspaper reported yesterday.
The list from the Jiashide Toy Manufacturing Co in the provincial capital of Jiangsu was accidentally uncovered after some suppliers stormed the factory to demand the toy maker return a debt of nearly 400,000 yuan on Saturday, the Nanjing-based Modern Express reported.
The suppliers started to look for valuables at the factory after they realized that the factory, which had halted production, could not possibly repay their money.
Soon they found the list, which had recorded more than 40 gifts sent to government officials as the Lunar New Year presents, the report said.
It also had recorded the name of each official and his or her government position, the report added. The gifts, including luxury clothes, shopping cards and cash, were selected according to the levels of the officials, the report said.
Nine pieces of clothes, worth 1,000 yuan each, were sent to officials in banking, industrial and commercial and tax administrations while cash was offered to other officials, the report said. A reporter called one of the officials listed and he denied that he had received any presents.
