AN official was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon in central China's Hubei Province.

Xu Jirong, 50, director of the landscape bureau in Tianmen City, was stabbed in the neck and chest in his office by a local, Wuhan-based Chutian Metropolis Daily reported today.

The suspected killer, who was identified as Yi, reportedly lived in a residential area named Xiawan.

Yi allegedly entered Xu's office about 3pm and the official was heard screaming immediately, the report said.

Yi was seen jumping out a window from Xu's second-floor office and escaping in a car, the newspaper said.

Yi reportedly leased a lake from the landscape bureau to run an aquaculture business, but the bureau decided to terminate the agreement next year, the report said, citing an unidentified insider.

Two days ago, another bureau director in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was stabbed to death by a subordinate, according to North News.

Jin, 58, chief of the Yellow River engineering bureau of Inner Mongolia's water resources department in Hohhot, was reportedly involved in a verbal dispute with an employee over his salary.

The employee, who was identified as Ya, went to Jin's office on the third floor about 9:45am and allegedly stabbed Jin in the chest several times.

Ya, 46, then went downstairs to the first floor and assaulted Guo, head of the department, according to the report.

Guo, 46, suffered stab wounds to the chest and left arm.

Jin died on the way to hospital.

Ya was apprehended by others at the bureau, the report said.
