THE death toll of a scaffolding collapse in the city's suburban Fengxian District had risen to three by yesterday.
The accident happened in on Sunday morning. A worker died on the spot while nine colleagues suffered injuries, Oriental Morning Post reported today.
Two men died later in hospital and the other seven were all out of danger, the news report said.
The collapse occurred when the workers were pouring concrete. All three dead workers were buried under the concrete for at least four hours, according to the report.
Initial investigation showed the accident might be caused by illegal construction to expand the workshop of Shanghai Dehua Metal Netbelt Co Ltd. The collapse happened on the top fourth floor of the workshop.
