Crackdown on ticket evaders in Metro lines

SHANGHAI Metro officials caught 102 ticket evaders and 11 passengers with fake passes yesterday at the People's Square station during a three-day-crackdown starting Monday.

Ticket evaders will face a maximum fine of 45 yuan (US$6.56), five times of the highest Metro fare, according to the Metro regulations.

However, Metro officials said, currently ticket evaders will receive only an oral warning in most cases rather than being fined.
