A MAN was blown 10 meters up into a tree by a gust of wind in Beijing yesterday, a newspaper reported today.

Firemen rescued the stranded man, 20, from the 15-meter tree 20 minutes after the incident, the Beijing Times reported.

A powerful gust of wind blew under the steel sheet roofing of a bungalow when the man was repairing it. He was luckily able to grasp the tree trunk as he was thrown off the roof.

With his feet dangling on tree branches, he cried out for help. A friend called police and firemen rushed to the scene with their ladder to save him.

Beijing was bright but windy yesterday with lows of minus 12 degrees Celsius and a blue-alarm grade six wind.

Yesterday was the Winter Solstice when the daytime is shortest and the sunshine at its weakest.
