A 150-kilogram bomb was found at a construction site on Saturday afternoon and moved to safety by firefighters.

Investigators said the unexploded bomb was probably dropped by the Japanese airforce in 1937, when the Japanese bombarded Shanghai before invading the city on August 13.

Construction workers at the former site of the Jiangnan Shipyard, on Gaoxiong Road in Luwan District, found the bomb buried about 7 meters underground. The Jiangnan Shipyard has been moved to Changxing Island, and the site is being prepared for the Expo.

The bomb was found where a line of old workshops have stood for decades.

The bomb was 1.2 meters in length and 40 centimeters in diameter. Experts confirmed it would not explode, and it was lifted out of the ground by a digger and removed.
