NEWSPAPER EDITION
THE Expo organizer yesterday began selecting about 30,000 people from across the country to take part in the 2010 World Expo.
Anyone from China's mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, including foreigners living and working in the country, can take part in the nationwide "Expo Star" selection process, said Chen Xianjin, deputy director-°?general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.
People will be chosen for having exceptionally high environmental awareness and healthy, green lifestyles. The Expo Stars will serve as model citizens during the 2010 event.
They will be invited to visit the Expo and to take part in a ceremony on August 8, 2010, to mark the 100th day of the event.
The organizer will give each of the stars 20 "Star Seeds." The stars will hand these out to remind Expo visitors to behave well during the event, said Chen. The seeds may be labels or badges.
The organizer will invite 15 corporations, all of them global partners or senior sponsors of the Expo, to select the "Expo Stars."
The corporations will gradually announce their selection plans and how to apply to be an Expo Star within the next two months, Chen said.
The World Expo organizer has asked corporations to hold their selections in various regions so that people from all over the country can take part, said Chen.
