ANOTHER weak cold front is expected to hit the city on Thursday, after temperatures rise today and tomorrow, weathermen said.

The fluctuating temperatures mean the city will have to wait at least a few more days before officially crossing over into winter, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Winter begins when the daily average temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius for five straight days.

Over the next two days, highs will range between 14 and 15 degrees, with lows of 5 or 6, forecasters said.

The maximum temperature will drop to 13 degrees on Thursday, and the minimum will fall to 4 degrees downtown and lower in the suburbs, where black ice may appear in the morning.

From Friday, the mercury will rise again, with maximum temperatures back above 15 degrees and lows between 5 and 7 degrees.
