CHANGES to regulations protecting consumer rights have been placed on the five-year legislation program (2008-12) of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai People's Congress, which deals with the economy, social progress and quality of life.
The program consists of 70 piece of legislation, 53 of which will be officially proposed to the standing committee to examine and deliberate, officials said at a meeting yesterday.
The other 17 are preparatory pieces of legislation which need further research and discussion. Once these are ready to be considered, they will be put to the standing committee for examination and deliberation.
There are 31 new laws and 39 changes to legislation proposed.
The laws focus on the acceleration of the organization for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, economic and social development, basic rights and benefits, and meeting the demands of the city's urbanization and modernization.
Members of the standing committee will launch their year-end inspection of social and economic developments and the city government's administration on Monday.
