NEWSPAPER EDITION
A COLLEGE student has been detained after she allegedly stabbed six other students, leaving one in a critical condition in Weinan City, Shaanxi Province.
The incident occurred at a girl's dormitory at Weinan Technological College on Monday night. A student, surnamed Cheng, pulled out a knife and slashed at a gang of girls attacking her, Sanqin Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
Doctors in Weinan City Central Hospital told the newspaper that four girls had chest wounds and two others were stabbed in their arms. One student surnamed Liu is still in the hospital's intensive care unit.
Police said that all seven involved in the violence are under 18.
Cheng told police that the attack stemmed from a dispute between her and a student surnamed Tian.
On December 3, the two girls fought over trivial issues in the dormitory. The next evening Tian rounded up several students who went to Cheng's dormitory where another fight broke out. Tian and her friends returned on December 5, but Cheng was not there.
Tian called and threatened Cheng, who was so frightened and did not return to the dormitory that night, the report said.
At 10pm on Monday, Tian and her friends found Cheng at her room. Tian slapped Cheng in the face twice. Cheng struck back but was then beaten to the ground by Tian's friends.
Cheng got up, pulled out a knife and began slashing wildly. Six girls were wounded and Cheng also had cuts on one hand, the report said.
Cheng went to a clinic. She was seized by police upon returning to the school. Cheng told police she picked up the knife in a taxi.
