Travel agent appears in court

A MAN surnamed Jiang went on trial yesterday in the Jing'an District People's Court. The former accountant at a local travel agency was charged with embezzlement for taking more than 5 million yuan (US$727,326) of public money within three years. Jiang, 27, allegedly sold travel coupons on the black market.

From 2005 to May 2008, Jiang allegedly embezzled 5.03 million yuan in this way. He gave himself up to the police in May and gave 3.68 million yuan back to the company.
