CONSTRUCTION of an elevated walkway in Lujiazui, Pudong New Area and another on Fuxing Road E. will be completed and open next year, according to News Daily.

A C-shaped elevated walkway in Lujiazui will stretch 200 meters across Lujiazui Road W., Yincheng Road W. and Century Avenue. It will link several skyscrapers including Jin Mao Tower.

The elevated C-shaped walkway will help pedestrians after many complained the area was mainly for vehicles and was difficult to get around on foot.

According to blueprints of the project, the footbridge will connect to Lujiazui Metro Station on Line 2 and a planned station on Line 14.

Pedestrians will also find it easier to get around Lujiazui in the future as Jin Mao Tower, the World Financial Center and the Shanghai Center will be connected by underground passages, the newspaper said.

Another elevated walkway at the intersection of Fuxing Road E. and Henan Road, which is the first cable stayed elevated walkway in the country, will open after the Spring Festival, the report said.

The Huangpu District government built the footbridge to improve traffic at the intersection. Henan Road will serve as one of the major arteries in the area for vehicles to access World Expo Park in Pudong New Area, the report said.
