Atletico ban stays

SPORT'S highest court upheld a ruling that Atletico Madrid must play a Champions League match in an empty stadium because of racist behavior by its fans.

Atletico had argued that UEFA did not have evidence to prove its fans were racist and violent during a Champions League match on October 1 against French club Marseille. The Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected the appeal yesterday. However, it reduced a fine the Spanish club has to pay to ?75,000 (US$95,000), from the 150,000 euro ordered by UEFA last month.
