THE national sales of medicines will reach 1 trillion yuan (US$146.41 billion) in 2011 due to the increasing aging population and medical reform, officials told a meeting on biological medicine development in Shanghai yesterday.

China has become the world's largest raw material drug producer and eight of the 10 world leading pharmaceutical companies have established research and development centers in Shanghai.
