A COMPLEX featuring shopping, offices, a hotel and underground parking will be set up in the heart of Pudong’s Lujiazui Financial Trade Zone.

Construction of the project called Century Metropolis has started and will be completed by 2011 with four city Metro lines meeting underneath, according to Shanghai Morning Post.

The center will be enclosed by Dongfang Road, Zhangyang Road, Fushan Road and Weifang Road. It will cover an area of 89,200 square meters and is divided by Century Avenue into two triangle-shaped sections, the newspaper said.

Lujiazui Financial Trade Zone Development Co Ltd has won the bid to develop one section and plans to sell or rent office space to Bailian Group when the project is completed. Under the plan two 15- or 16-story towers will be built along with several other shorter buildings.

Hong Kong based Hutchison Whampoa Ltd has won the right to develop the other section. It plans to add a 39-story office building, a 23-floor hotel and an underground parking lot, the report said.

The project is above a future Metro transport hub where lines 2, 4, 6 and 9 will intersect, the newspaper said.
