SHANGHAI police arrested a man for murdering a married couple in their home in Minhang District on November 2, Eastday.com reported today.

The man surnamed Zhang was arrested on November 7 while playing mahjong at a public chess room in Susong County, Anhui Province.

Zhang admitted after preliminary questioning to killing the couple for money, the report said.

Zhang left Shanghai with his family after the killings, but a forensic analysis of the couple’s home helped police identify him as a suspect.

The couple, surnamed Du and Huang, was killed about 8pm on November 2 in Pujiang Town of Minhang. The couple lived in a two-story villa and across the courtyard was a clinic, where Du treated patients.

According to an earlier report, a man brought his sick wife to see Dr Du about 8pm that day. When they approached Du’s courtyard, a man on his way out asked him to wait for a while. He entered the courtyard a few minutes later and found Dr Du lying in a pool of blood and his wife Huang dead in the living room of the villa.
