LIN Feng, the Party chief of Sandaozhen Township in south China's Hainan Province, has been dismissed from his post after killing a schoolgirl in a car accident, according to local authorities.
The 17-year-old victim, surnamed Dong, was from the Li ethnic group and lived in the Baoting Li and Miao ethnic groups' autonomous county. She was hit and killed by Lin's car on the night of November 2 as she was returning to school with two classmates. One of her classmates sustained minor bruises.
The police said Lin did not stop to take the girls to a hospital, but instead drove to the township's public security bureau and told them about the accident.
An autopsy showed that Dong died in the incident, said police. They have detained Lin for further investigation.
The Baoting county committee of the Communist Party of China decided to dismiss Lin from his position late last week and the Standing Committee of the county's People's Congress was also considering dismissing Lin as a deputy.
