Suspect caught over stabbing attacks on foreigners

A MAN who allegedly stabbed two foreigners in downtown Beijing last week was caught last night in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, the Beijing Security Bureau announced.

Suspect Wang Yan, 34, will be escorted back to Beijing soon, Beijing Evening News reported today.

The Heilongjiang Province native has already confessed to police, the report said.

A Russian man and a middle-aged American man were injured in the attacks. The Russian man was seriously injured after he was stabbed four times in the arm and abdomen in a fast-food restaurant. His bag was stolen during the attack.

The American man was attacked in a parking lot at Full Link Plaza in Chaoyang District. He suffered only minor injuries.

A previous report cited the Russian’s wife as saying her husband’s bag contained a 20,000 yuan (US$2,941) laptop, plus cash and other valuables when it was stolen.
