YOUNG Chinese are applying in record numbers for civil service vacancies in state government and Communist Party of China (CPC) offices.

The number of eligible applicants this year is a record 1.05 million, 25 percent more than last year. Seventy-seven applicants will compete for each job, whereas last year the ratio was 60 to 1.

Most applications are for jobs in the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, and some CPC Central Committee departments.

The most popular job is one with China Disabled Persons' Federation, with 4,723 applicants, said the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. This year's exams will be on November 30.
