FAST-FOOD chain KFC warned consumers not to buy its coupons from e-commerce Websites as some counterfeits were being sold online.

KFC has never let any Website sell its coupons and the chain will ask those who sell fake coupons online to take legal responsibility, it said in an announcement on its Website.

A consumer surnamed Zhu complained she bought some fake KFC coupons from Taobao.com, an e-commerce Website, Xinmin Evening News reported today.

Zhu told the newspaper she bought the coupons in April and used some to receive free KFC products in the past few months. However, she was told the coupons she used this month were counterfeits.

A set of 12 coupons sold for 9 yuan (US$1.3) on Taobao, Zhu said. Consumers can use one coupon every month to get a free item such as a sundae or a black tea from any KFC outlet.

Shanghai Daily found such coupons were still available on Taobao today. Each seller claimed their KFC coupons were authentic.
