State bans 10 video Websites, warns 17 others

TEN video Websites were banned and 17 others were warned for violating regulations by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television.

The administration released the list on its Website on Monday, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

The ban only affects the Websites’ video services, the report said, adding that it was the third time the administration has stepped in to police such sites.

Twelve video Websites from Shanghai were given a warning including resource sharing Website VeryCD.com and online game service provider 9you.com.

Some of the Shanghai Websites have been warned for either publishing pornographic, horrifying or violent content. Others were warned for providing online video services without proper approval or spreading video programs that violate national regulations, the report said.

Industry insiders told the newspaper the online video industry had entered a period of consolidation and the next six months will shake up the industry.

The administration issued its first warning in March and a second in May, according to the report.
