A PROFESSOR was killed by a student in a meat cleaver attack at a university in Beijing last night.
The male student surnamed Fu allegedly used a cleaver to attack associate professor Cheng Chunming at 6:37pm on the Changping campus of Chinese Politics and Law University in Beijing, Beijing Times reported today.
Fu, 22, surrendered to police immediately after the attack, the report said.
A witness surnamed Liu told the newspaper she heard a cry from classroom 201 and someone shouted “killing!” while she was studying alone in a nearby classroom. She rushed over and saw a schoolboy standing in the room with a cleaver in hand while the professor was lying on the floor.
Another student told the newspaper Cheng was teaching a class when the student took out a clever from his pocket and chopped at the professor’s neck. Cheng fell to the floor immediately. Then the man called police, according to the report.
Cheng was sent to local hospital and died about 7pm, the report added.
The head of a public security office, surnamed Yang, confirmed that Fu is a student at the university but declined to disclose further details in the case.
