TWO people were shot and killed and a third wounded on an Arkansas university campus last night, according to university and hospital officials.
The shooting occurred at about 9:30 pm local time (0230 GMT on Monday) outside a dormitory at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway, about 30 miles (48 km) west of Little Rock, the state capital.
"One of the wounded died at the scene, and a second died after he reached the hospital," said Lori Ross, spokeswoman for Conway Regional Medical Center.
University officials said there were four suspects in the shooting and one was in custody.
It was unclear if the suspects or victims were university students, university spokesman Warwick Sabin said in a telephone interview.
The campus was placed on lockdown shortly after the shootings were reported, and Monday's classes were cancelled.
The hospital did not identify the victims.
