A FOREIGN man was seen begging for money on Metro Line 2 yesterday, Labor Daily reported today.
The tall man had blonde hair and blue eyes. He carried a sign in Chinese that read: “My passport and wallet were stolen, please give me 10 yuan. Thank you.”
A young man with a computer bag read the sign and gave the beggar 50 yuan (US$7.31) without hesitation, the report said. The beggar got off the train at Nanjing Road West station.
“I don’t think he is a swindler as he is a foreigner,” the young man told the newspaper.
The same foreigner was reported begging on the subway several days ago.
A Metro spokeswoman surnamed Huang told Shanghai Daily that if they find beggars harassing commuters, they would be stopped.
The Labor Daily report said if foreign tourists lose their wallet or passport they can seek help from their country’s consulate.
