A county court driver in Shaanxi Province allegedly used a police car to steal telecommunication equipment worth 40,000 yuan (US$5,882) from a China Unicom base station, Xi'an Evening News reported today.
The driver of Yanchang County People's Court in the province, surnamed Liu, was detained by the police of the county but his three accomplices are still at large, the report said. Cops seized the police vehicle which was used in the operation and confiscated the equipment.
On October 17, Liu allegedly got together with three others and drove a police car to send them to a mountain side where China Unicom had set up a telecommunication base station.
The story didn't explain why and how the court driver could use a police car.
Liu waited in the car as his accomplices broke into the base station, according to the police. The men allegedly stole 24 high-end batteries.
However, China Unicom workers soon discovered the theft through their surveillance system and called in the police.
The cops caught Liu promptly and seized the car with the stolen goods but his accomplices managed to escape, the report said.
