A MILD cold front is expected to drop into the city this week and bring with it several days of rain, forecasters said yesterday.
Showers may begin to soak the city late Wednesday and continue into Friday, according to Fu Yi, the chief forecaster at the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
For today into Wednesday, skies should be cloudy with highs of 27 degrees Celsius and lows around 21.
Forecasters said fog may cover some areas this morning and reminded travelers to be extra careful while driving.
Temperatures are expected to drop as the front moves in later Wednesday, cutting the mercury to a low of 18 degrees on Thursday and 16 on Friday, with highs of around 26.
Although 144 days of summer ended on October 11 after the average daily temperature dipped below 22 degrees for five straight days starting that day, it felt like the sultry season had returned yesterday.
Maximum temperatures ranged between 28 and 30 degrees in almost all districts of the city, weather bureau officials reported.
