A BUS caught fire on Yangpu Bridge last night causing a traffic jam in the area, Xinmin.cn reported today.
There were no passengers on the bus at the time and the driver escaped unharmed, according to the report.
The vehicle was heading north on the bridge about 9:15pm near Huangxing Road and Zhoujiazui Road when the fire started.
A woman told the newspaper that she heard two explosions and saw the burning bus as the driver rushed off.
Firefighters put out the fire in about five minutes after arriving at the scene.
Yangpu Bridge links Yangpu District on the west bank of the Huangpu River and Pudong New Area in the northeast of Shanghai.
The bus was destroyed in the fire and authorities are still investigating the incident.
