Mauritania coup leaders say elections to be held as soon as possible

THE coup leaders in Mauritania said today that elections will be held in the country as soon as possible, reports from agencies reaching here said.

The Mauritanian military staged a coup yesterday in the capital of Nouakchott, arresting President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi and Prime Minister Yahya Ould Ahmed Waghf.
