JIADING District police said yesterday they had detained three people for allegedly stealing diesel oil from cars parked along the road at night.
With the rise of fuel prices, more theft cases were reported in the district, police said. In one case, a truck driver surnamed Li was unable to start his car last month. He checked the fuel tank only to find that the tank he left full the night before was completely empty and diesel oil had been left on the ground, police said.
After several reports of such cases, police said they set ambushes on important roads to catch thieves in action.
About 3am on July 28, a white coach parked beside the road. Three people named Zhao Quanwei, Ren Guangduo and Zhou Fu were caught on the site just after they opened the fuel tank, with two hoses and five plastic buckets, police said.
