A MAN allegedly killed one passerby and injured another nine in a fury while trying to find the person who stole his money and replaced it with fake bank notes, said the Public Security Bureau of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The attacks happened at 9:30pm on Monday in the Shuangqiao Garden Plaza in Wenshan County, when a migrant worker who had returned to his home town reportedly stabbed a woman with a knife. He then ran away and stabbed nine other people in the street.

One person was killed and nine were injured though none of them seriously. The suspect was seized by police 300 meters from the scene of the attacks.

Police said preliminary interrogation showed that the suspect found that all his 2,600 yuan (US$371) savings had been swapped for fake notes after he had sex with a prostitute.

The suspect turned to a local police station for help but was too angry to wait for an investigation.

He bought a knife with the three yuan he had left and tried to find the person who stole his cash.
