A MAN was sentenced to two years in jail and fined 5,000 yuan (US$731) yesterday for hacking into a Website and changing the bank account number of a local Red Cross foundation for earthquake donations to his own account number.

A court in Kunshan, eastern China's Jiangsu Province, found Yang Litao, a staff member of a network technology company in Guangdong Province, guilty of hacking into the city's Red Cross Foundation Website in May to syphon off money. Yang had opened a bank account using a false name but police shut down the Website, one of several he had hacked into, on May 18. Yang did not make any money because of the rapid police reaction. Yang was caught three days later in Shenzhen, Guangdong.
