SPECTATORS at the Beijing Olympic Games will be covered by a free accident insurance scheme, Beijing Times reported today.
Ticket holders have to register at Emss.org.cn to be covered and the last day for registration is August 26.
Coverage will run from August 5 to August 27, said Cao Ronggui, chairman of the Chinese Hospital Association
The association set up a special emergency medical center in Beijing as well as 37 city medical emergency centers and online hospitals around the country to provide the service for spectators.
Spectators who need emergency treatment before arriving at a hospital are covered for up to 1,000 yuan (US$146) in care per person and those who are treated in hospital for up to 5,000 yuan.
The Beijing Games are expected to attract 7 million visitors and the total number of ticket holders will reach at least 3 million, according to the newspaper.
