A COURT in northwest China has upheld a 12-year jail sentence for Pang Jiayu, former vice chairman of the provincial committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Shaanxi Province.

The Intermediate People's Court in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, said Pang hadn't lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence on corruption charges before the expiry date on Wednesday.

Pang was jailed last month, with his personal assets worth 200,000 yuan (US$29,217) confiscated.

Pang was dismissed from his CPPCC post in February last year, and was also expelled from the Communist Party of China.

The 63-year-old was found to have taken bribes when acting as mayor and CPC Party chief of Baoji city in Shaanxi. He had also illegally approved the establishment of a state-owned security company.
