Traffic hub to handle 800,000 visits

THE planned Hongqiao traffic hub will be available for Metro lines and link Shanghai's elevated roads.

Its integrated transport system is also designed with the capability to handle emergencies, according to a report released by Shanghai Academy of Environment Sciences yesterday to solicit public opinions.

With a total of 146.2 hectares, the core of the hub will be surrounded by seven roads, including Qinghong Road, Qixin Road and Xujing Road M., and consist of a rail station, Maglev station and the airport. Special elevated roads in the hub will link the city's elevated expressways at four points. The hub is expected to handle 800,000 visits and 64,000 transfers.

People may also take taxis, buses or drive their own cars to the hub, which has 3,500 taxi spaces, dozens of bus lines and a waiting room with 1,500 seats.

The hub will also have five public parking lots. With a total area of 17,000 square meters, they are designed to accommodate more than 7,000 vehicles.
