CHINA Southern Airlines will extend fuel surcharges to all international routes to offset rising fuel costs, officials from the carrier said, according to the New Express Daily today.
In one example sited, a one-way trip between China and Japan will now include an 8,500-yen (US$76.50) fuel surcharge, up from 6,500 yen, the report said.
Nine other domestic airlines have announced higher fuel surcharges since the end of last month, when the retail price of jet fuel increased 1,500 yuan (US$214.3) per ton, according to a report by the Oriental Morning Post.
For routes between the Chinese mainland and Southeast Asia, the surcharge will rise to 550 yuan from 420 yuan. Each passenger will pay a surcharge of 1,100 yuan, up from 800 yuan, for long-haul flights to Europe, North America, Africa and Oceania, the report said.
