THE maximum temperature in Shanghai yesterday dropped to under 35 degrees Celsius and that should be the maximum temperature for the next three days, weather forecasters said.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said with the subtropical high leaving the city, there will be some relief from extremely hot weather.
But thunderstorms are expected to hit tomorrow afternoon and on Friday as a weak cold front and a monsoon trough from the northwest move in, forecasters said.
For the rest of the month there will be six to nine days when the maximum temperature will be above 35 degrees.
The highest temperature is expected to hit 39 degrees, said the bureau.
The lower temperatures eased the burden on power supplies yesterday but authorities said short-term overloading still appeared in some "hot spots" in the city, especially in Songjiang and Minhang districts. Authorities may have to cut power to some areas if overloading continues.
IF you were hoping for some respite from the scorching weather, the news is bad. Shanghai weather experts said yesterday the big heat will continue for the rest of the month - and you can add rain into the equation. ...
