Budget houses to be built for young college teachers

SHANGHAI Jiao Tong University has begun building budget apartments for young teachers and PhD candidates, according to the higher-learning institution.

A total of 15,000 square meters of low-cost housing will be available in about one year, it said.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai municipal government has agreed to build a batch of budget houses to serve young college teachers. Those small units will be built in Minhang District, according to Jiao Tong.

Young teachers generally have low incomes while Shanghai's new homes sold at an average price of 1.63 million yuan (US$239,700) in the first half of this year.
