THE People's Bank of China plans to issue a commemorative bank note with a face value of 10 yuan (US$1.46) from tomorrow to mark the Beijing Olympic Games, Xinhua news agency reported yesterday.
The report said the PBOC would issue a total of 6 million such notes, which will be circulated into the market.
The front side of the note is a picture of the National Stadium, the main venue for the Olympic Games in August. The backdrop is the Temple of Heaven, one of the country's best-known landmarks. The emblem of the Games is above the National Stadium.
On the top left there is an Arabic numeral "10" while a watermark of the National Stadium can be found below. There is also Braille near the bottom left corner, the report said.
On the right side, China's national emblem, the Arabic numeral 10 and the words 10 Yuan, written in Chinese characters, can be found.
On the back of the note is a picture of the famous Greek statue of a discus-thrower, portraits of athletes and the year 2008.
The report said the central bank used watermarks and other technologies to prevent counterfeiting, the report said.
Hold the note to the light, and "BEIJING," "2008" and "29" can be seen, the report said.
The special 10-yuan note is in blue and green, 148.5 millimeters long and 72 millimeters wide. Ordinary 10-yuan notes are 140 millimeters long and 70 millimeters wide, according to the report.
