HISTORY will be made this weekend with the launch in Shanghai of China's first English-language Sunday newspaper.

Sunday, the Shanghai Daily's new edition, will open a whole new world of weekend reading for residents and visitors in the city and the Yangtze River Delta.

The first edition is certain to become a collector's issue.

It includes a specially printed, one-off tribute to the renowned architect, Laszlo Hudec, whose building and monument designs through the early decades of the last century created a distinctive Shanghai style with buildings that remain icons in the city today.

This Hudec tribute publication is made possible by the photography of another outstanding Shanghai artist, the internationally published Deke Erh.

Sunday will be published in two parts. The front section will consist of all the latest local, national and international news and sport. The second section, called Vibe, is devoted to lifestyle stories and comprises sections which reflect Sunday living in Shanghai.

This Sunday, read about the eccentric scientist who uncovered the amazing achievements of China over the past few thousand years in an exclusive interview with author Simon Winchester.

The new newspaper will be on sale for 3 yuan (44 US cents) through the usual outlets in Shanghai, including hotels, kiosks and to subscribers through home delivery.

To celebrate the launch of Sunday, Shanghai Daily is organizing an eco-friendly exhibition, "I love green," at Xintiandi, The exhibition runs from Sunday to Friday.
